Who We Are
What’s Our Story?
Community Partners Against Substance Abuse (CPASA) is a not-for-profit community organization with over 40 active members from all areas of the Bureau County and Putnam County community. It is our mission to reduce substance abuse among youth in Bureau and Putnam Counties, and, over time, among adults by addressing the factors in our community that increase the risk of substance abuse and promoting the factors that minimize the risk of substance abuse. CPASA has come a long way and is proud and excited to announce that they are the recipients of the 2009 Drug Free Communities Grant. This Grant will allow the coalition to do so much in (and for) the community.
In September 2007, several individuals began meeting to study and discuss some of the data regarding substance use in Bureau and Putnam Counties that was obtained through the Illinois Project for Local Assessment of Needs (IPLAN) process. As the group continued to meet and word of their activities spread through the community, this small group of community members grew into a coalition with a shared commitment to stand together against substance abuse.
CPASA has been very busy in the community promoting themselves and taking a stand against underage drinking and substance abuse. Some of the programs and projects that CPASA has brought to the community are:
- Project Sticker Shock;
- STOP Meth Now;
- Putnam County Partners in Education Program;
- Illinois Liquor Control Commission Program;
- Public Service Announcements (Radio, Print, and Billboard Ads);
- Community Service Project: “Distractions Slow Reactions, just like Drugs”;
- the movie, To Save A Life;
- and more to come!
The dedication and passion of each member of CPASA ensures that this coalition will be active for a long time.
CPASA has representatives from a wide cross-section of the Bureau and Putnam County communities, including:
- law enforcement
- education
- the business community
- media
- youth service organizations
- faith organizations
- fraternal organizations
- civic and volunteer groups
